EPOXY RESIN COUNTERTOPS AND VANITIES WITH GLASS MATRIX

This guide specification has been prepared by Enviroslab INC. in printed and electronic media, as an aid to specifiers in preparing written construction documents for counter tops and  using EnviroSlab countertops made from Enviroglass recycled glass and/or recycled porcelain epoxy matrix. Enviroslab represents 80 recycled glass and 20 percent non-voc color-pigmented epoxy resin binder.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

  1. General: Submit in accordance with Section 01330.
  2. [LEED Submittals:

1. Credit MR 4.1[and 4.2]: Product Data indicating percentages by weight of post-consumer

recycled content for products having recycled content.

a. Include statement indicating costs for each product having recycled content.

  1. Credit MR 5.1[and 5.2]: Certification of content complying with Regionally Manufactured or 
Regionally Extracted Materials.
  2. Credit EQ 4.1: Manufacturers’ product data for adhesives and sealants, including printed 
statement of VOC content.]

C. Shop Drawings: Indicate profiles of members, jointing, fastening, edge treatments, and cut-outs for mechanical services, sinks, accessories, and related items.

D. Samples: Submit following:
1. Submit full range of available colors for selection purposes for Architect’s selection. After

initial selection, submit a maximum of four (4) samples, minimum 4” x 4” for each finished combination of Epoxy Resin Color and Glass Aggregate Color for acceptance before proceeding with Work.

 

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Fabricator Qualifications: Company specializing in fabricating work specified in this Section with 
minimum five years’ experience in type work required for Project.
  2. Materials Supplier:

1. Materials furnished shall meet RGP Specifications.

1.4 [MOCK-UPS

  1. General: Comply with Section 01400.
  2. Construct mock-up of one [vanity] [counter top] [credenza top] for Architect’s approval. Completed mock-up [may] [may not] remain as completed work.]

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Comply with Section 01600.

  1. Handle, transport, and store units to prevent damage to materials or structure. Handle with 
care to prevent damage to corners and scratches to faces.
  2. Broken, cracked, chipped, stained or damaged stone will be rejected, whether built-in or not.

1.6 WARRANTY

A. Warrant product to be free from defects in materials and fabrication for a period of 1 year from date of installation. Enviroslab recycled glass products are by design a custom, hand crafted product. Certain imperfections and surface characteristics are inherent and part of the product’s composition.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 ACCEPTABLE FABRICATORS

A. Subject to compliance with requirements indicated, provide products from fabricators listed below:

  1. Enviroslab Incorporated, 1107 New Hope Rd. Raleigh NC 27610
  2. Substitutions: Submit in accordance with Section 01600.

2.2 MATERIAL

A. Enviroslab Epoxy Terrazzo with Glass Matrix: Provide sound, hard, durable, epoxy terrazzo of uniform strength, color, and texture.
1. Epoxy Resin Performance Criteria without GlassSCAPE aggregate added:

2.3 EPOXY TERRAZZO COUNTERTOP AND VANITY FABRICATION

A. Assemble work at shop and deliver to Project ready for installation.

  1. Design construction and installation details to allow for expansion and contraction of 
materials. Properly frame material with tight, hairline joints held rigidly in place.
  2. Comply with grout manufacturer’s recommendations for shelf life, pot life, working life, 
mixing, spreading, assemble time, time under pressure and ambient temperature.
  3. Provide cut-outs for sinks, mechanical services, washroom accessories and related items. Drill holes and fabricate cut-outs from templates. Provide polished finish for cut-out edges 
where exposed due to under hung vanity bowl.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

  1. Examine conditions and proceed with work in accordance with Section 01400.
  2. Confirm that supporting construction is complete, and is level, square, true, rigid, and secure.

3.2 INSTALLATION

  1. Set Enviroslab as shown on approved shop drawings. Butt joints uniformly at 1/64”.
  2. Install at locations indicated level, square, true, rigid and secure, and in strict accordance with fabricator’s printed instructions.
  3. Dimensions shall not vary more than 1/8” in length, height, or width.
  4. Fill joints with color-pigmented stain proof grout.

3.3 CLEANING

A. General: Comply with Section 01740.

been damaged by improper cleaning materials and techniques.
  5. No Chemical Seal. Waxing is optional.
